Doubling Efficiency Progress: The role of efficient electrification

Abstract:

Renewable electricity and end-use electrification are transforming our energy systems, affecting their structure, operation and societal impacts. Join our speakers from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) in this webinar to hear how electrification trends and goals affect the value of different energy efficiency solutions, and discuss how this impacts the design of energy efficiency policies.

On the one hand, electrification tends to improve energy efficiency, because electric technologies are often more efficient than their fossil-fuel counterparts. On the other hand, the increase in electric load, coupled with more intermittent generation, provides opportunities for efficient technologies that support electrification, including by improving the storage capacity of our buildings and devices.

Federico Callioni (IEA) will present analysis on the synergies between energy efficiency and electrification, featured in the IEA’s Energy Efficiency 2024 Market Report.

Marion Santini (RAP) will present a just released report from RAP on new directions for energy efficiency in the context of electrificiation.
