Building Social License for Flexibility: Gender, Diversity, and Energy Communities

Abstract:

The Social License to Automate 2.0 Task has explored the role of gender- and diversity factors in flexibility, the potential of energy communities to contribute to the granting of a social license for flexibility and automation, as well as what can be learned from energy consumption profiles regarding flexibility potential when a gender- and diversity-sensitive lens is applied. The Task is concluding in October and final results will be presented on these questions including a diversity-inclusive flexibility framework and a typology for energy communities with a focus on social aspects, as well as understandings of these aspects within energy communities derived from multiple case studies. We will discuss the final conclusions and recommendations and conclude with an outlook on our upcoming activities, aiming to explore methodological and collective approaches to build Social License.
